Tips & Tricks
Follow the tips & tricks below, to make sure you get the best experience out of using our site.
How to use the site
- This site is set up for sharing of passwords/secrets in four simple steps: CREATE -> SHARE -> OPEN -> VIEW
- CREATE secret: Use the homepage to create a secret. You should try and add your own passphrase where possible.
- SHARE secret: Once the secret is created, you will be provided with a unique URL for accessing the secret. Copy the URL and send it to the intended recipient.
- OPEN secret: The recipient takes the secret URL, and opens it in a web browser
- VIEW secret: The recipient clicks to view the secret. If the secret was protected with an additional passphrase, they must enter the passphrase to access the secret
- Secrets can only be viewed once. Once the secret has been viewed, it will be automatically "burned", and cannot be viewed again. Secrets have a default expiry of 24 hours from when they are created.
General security
- DO NOT put all your eggs in one basket!
- When creating a secret, you should only ever put one piece of information inside the secret, without any context.
- For example, if you want to share a password, don't put the web URL or username in the same secret. This ensures that if anyone else is able to view the secret before the intended recipient, they won't have any context on how to use the password.
- Think about what you want to disclose to another person. You should only ever provide someone the bare minimum information they need. Example: don't share admin credentials, if all someone needs is a "regular user" for access.
- Where possible, add a passphrase to your secret. This makes sure that even if someone else accesses the secret URL first, they cannot view the secret unless they also knew the passphrase.
